The Best Francophile Gifts for Under $50

Francophile Gift Guide

Whether you’re a Francophile making your holiday wish list or you’re shopping for your favorite wannabe Frenchie, here are some of our favorite French-inspired gifts for under $50.

1. Bonnecaze Match Striker

Add some French style to your coffee table with this vintage-style match striker from French company Bonnecaze. Known as a pyrogène in French, this clever little tchotchke allows you to store your strike-anywhere matches, while you can easily strike them on the ridged sides. Be sure to pair the striker with some safety matches in your favorite color. I’m a fan of this red match striker as well!

2. French Market Basket

An absolute staple in French market shopping, this French market basket will come in handy no matter where you actually do your shopping. Whether picking up groceries, stopping by the library, or heading to the beach, this workhorse is sure to add some French style to your daily routine.

3. Joie (and other books celebrating France)

If gifting tickets to Paris is out of the question, choose the next best thing: A book that will transport you right to France. Most recently, I’ve loved reading Joie: A Parisian’s Guide to Celebrating the Good Life by Ajiri Aki. Other favorites include Jamie Beck’s An American in Provence and Drinking French by David Lebovitz.

4. Savon de Marseille Soap

I don’t know about you, but fancy soap is one of those things that I will rarely buy for myself but that I love to receive as a gift. I love the design of these soaps by La Compagnie de Provence, and the fact that you can reuse the glass bottles — I’ve been refilling my first bottle with inexpensive hand soap for years! There are dozens of scents to choose from. My favorites are fig, verbena, and wild rose.

5. Paris Matchbook Print

Head to Etsy and type in “Paris prints” or “French prints” for a huge array of affordable French-inspired artwork. I love this print of a navy matchbook from the Ritz hotel in Paris. I also love the Parisian prints from artist Clare Caulfield and photographer Heather Deffense.

6. Nuxe Body Oil

Trust me: The Francophile in your life will be thrilled to receive this decadent Nuxe body oil that smells like a dream. This rich moisturizer can be used on the body, face, and hair, and it comes with or without a subtle shimmer. There was a time when you actually had to go to France to get a bottle of this, but now you can get this and so many other French pharmacy favorites on Amazon.

7. La Rochere Glassware

French company La Rochere has been making glassware since the 1400s, so they seem to know what they’re doing. This sweet set of two-ounce glasses in the company’s classic Napoleon Bee motif can be used as shot glasses or egg cups.

8. Oui T-Shirt

I was influenced by Charlotte Reiss of Vivi et Margot to buy this x T-shirt, which is under $20. I even took her advice and ordered a women’s sized large, which is the perfect relaxed fit.

9. Opinel Les Essentials Knife Set

Opinel is a French brand that’s known for its high-quality knives and other kitchen tools like corkscrews. This budget-friendly French knife set includes a curved veggie knife, a peeler, and a standard paring knife as well as a micro-serated paring knife. The set comes in three punchy colorways.
